This brought a soft smile to Tess’s face. It felt good to see it. Maybe she was warming back up to him. “By accident. I didn’t even have my hands up. It was catch it or let it hit me in the face. I will be standing nowhere in the vicinity of the bouquet toss this time. Some other hopeful can have that bouquet.”

“Well, if we’re staying a bit, I need to peel these pants off,” River said.

Tess leaned in to keep their conversation private, but it felt intimate somehow. Something inside River longed to tug her to him. To wrap his arms around her waist. “You’ll need to pose for those wedding party pictures first, I’m afraid. You don’t want to disappoint the groom.” She puckered her bottom lip as if she regretted what she was telling him, but he thought the opposite was true.

“I think you’re enjoying that fact too much.”

“Oh, I am,” she agreed.

He chuckled. “Save me a dance? Once I get my jeans on.”

The humor left her face, along with a little bit of color. “If I can fight the ladies off you. You’re a hot commodity in those pants.”
